SPP Demonstrator Privacy Statement

Why a privacy statement?

This privacy statement has been written because the Subject Portals Project will need to collect a minimal amount of information about users who access the SPP Demonstrator.

What will SPP collect?

If a user has an Athens account, the first time they log in to the portal SPP will open a local account with the username provided by Athens. Users will then be invited to update their local accounts. Users without an Athens account can self-register and decide which information they want to provide. The minimal information a user can provide is a username.

Why are SPP collecting this information?

This information is collected purely so users can experience the full range of services the demonstrator offers. Having a user account allows customise of many portal features and access to email alerts.

What will SPP do with the data collected?

Information stored in the SPP Demonstrator:

will be retained by SPP in a database and will be processed in compliance with the Data Protection Principles of the Data Protection Act 1998
will not be made available for collection by Web robots
will not be sold or passed on to third parties
will only be held for the lifetime of the project plus one year and will then be deleted.
